Disorientation Guide
I have not written in awhile.
Half truth. I have been writing for a publication called the Disorientation Guide. It is dedicated to shifting the paradigms of innocent but interested freshman as they enter the problematic and challenging institution of UC Santa Cruz. Our goal was to break down radical theories, histories, and concepts in a way that made them accessible for people who may never of contemplated the word “hegemony” before.
Topics covered: the Prison Industrial Complex, how to practice consent, Whiteness/White Privilege, what is feminism anyways, how the UC is a war machine, debunking the gender binary, why “queer” is a form of political protest, an analysis of student movements in Quebec compared to those in the US, a conversation about the strengths and weaknesses of occupy, the importance of ethnic studies, a radical history of Santa Cruz, the history of Ohlone people in Santa Cruz, debt- from mortgages to student loans, the privatization of public education, a lovely article entitled “Obamney”, and a FAT glossary.
This is just a taste, but if anyone out there in tumblr land would like a copy of this fantastic publication- let me know. I will send it to you free.
